Suzanne Farwell’s starry New York-set rom-com Otherwise Engaged has racked up a slew of international sales heading into the American Film Market.
Mister Smith Entertainment, which launched the project at the Toronto International Film Festival market in September, closed deals with Sky for the U.K., VVS for Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and Leonine for Germany. Eagle Pictures took Italy, DeAPlaneta and TriPictures took Spain, and Nordisk Film picked up Scandinavia and Iceland.
Jack Whitehall and Zoë Kravitz star as Charlie and Gabby, a couple whose wedding plans start to unravel when Charlie’s estranged father (Colin Firth), a disgraced business tycoon fresh out of prison, turns up on their doorstep. He soon falls for Gabby’s fiercely independent mother (Halle Berry), leaving the bride and groom to contend with a sudden second romance in the family.
Farwell, a longtime Nancy Meyers collaborator whose producing credits include The Holiday and It’s Complicated, will direct from a script she co-wrote with Gabriel Mizrahi. Production is set to begin on the streets of New York in March 2027.
The film also sold to Front Row for the Middle East, Pasatiempo Pictures for the Baltics and Monolith for Poland. ProRom took the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. NOS Lusomundo picked up Portugal, The Film Group took Greece and Provzglyad and Vesta Film acquired CIS rights. Independent Films snatched Benelux and DCM Film AG took Switzerland, while Anuvu Distribution has worldwide airline and ship rights.
Farwell and Susan Cartsonis are producing for Resonate Entertainment alongside Laura Rister for Esme Grace Pictures. Clément Bauer will executive produce for Resonate. Mister Smith will shop the remaining international territories at AFM in Los Angeles, while CAA Media Finance handles U.S. rights.
