Would you let your roommate kick you out for a whole weekend?
One of the nice things about paying rent is that you have a place to stay. That's actually kind of the whole point of paying rent. You give a landlord money, so you have a place to sleep at night and conduct your daily business. Those are the basic tenets of tenancy. But roommates can sometimes tangle up these works. Maybe they've asked for the place to themselves for a night, for whatever reason. They probably know this is a big ask and that you can always say no. Plus, it really only works when you have somewhere else to stay, like a nearby parent's house or that of a significant other. If you don't have either of those things, you might be out of luck. And I don't know if you've tried to book a hotel recently, but those things are pretty expensive.
It's one thing to need the apartment for a night. It's a whole other thing to pretend like you don't live there. That would require a lot of effort and deception. If you live somewhere, you're probably leaving traces of yourself all around. It would be pretty difficult to scrub that evidence in a matter of days. And what if you had to do all that just to appease a roommate whom you don't know that well? You would probably bristle at all that effort for no reward. That's the situation this man found himself in with one of his roommates.
