The best time to start saving money was 15 years ago, and the second-best time is today. You can't go back and change your past horrible financial decision, but you can choose to spend and save your money smarter than you did yesterday. That includes living below your means so you actually have the funds to set some money aside, paying off your debt, not spending half of your paycheck on frivolous things, and not telling other people in your life what you're doing with your money. If you can't pay your bills and save any money, you don't have any business giving money to family members who ask for it. You can technically do whatever you want with your money, but doing so would be to your detriment. It's also important to save for your own retirement before saving for your kids' college. You have to take care of yourself first!
