What a time to be alive.
It's always nice to look back on where we came from and realize where we're going. Have you ever gone back through your old journals just to get a sense of your trajectory in life? You realize that you've had the same problems forever, and you're a little bit grateful for that. At least what you're tackling is nothing new. Or you remember something that used to mean so much to you, but just doesn't anymore. That time, you were crushed because you really wanted a new Cabbage Patch Kid for Christmas, and all you got was a Polly Pocket. Those were tough times, in the moment, but looking back, you don't feel a thing. Or that time you failed a math test in 9th grade, and it thought that it meant you would never be successful. Then you read that journal entry while sitting in your own apartment that you pay for with the money from your job. You can rest easy knowing that your 9th-grade self would be proud.
Isn't that all that we're hoping for at the end of the day? To lead a life that our teenage selves would be proud of? And, at least for me, that's not hard to do. She would have been impressed with the fact that I live in a city and have friends. Everything else on top of that is just icing on the cake. But all that said, it's important to look back on where we came from.
