Happy New Year, Trekkies! I wish I could say that Star Trek predicted we would all have great years free of conflict, but the canon has a slightly tumultuous plan for what's to come.

You can't ever rely on Star Trek canon to predict the future, but it can be fun to look back and see if the future they predicted came true. The most famous 2024 episode comes from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. "Past Tense" follows Commander Sisko, Dr. Bashir, and Jadzia Dax as they materialize in 2024 San Francisco and find themselves in a walled-off homeless district on the eve of a history-making riot. While a famous riot with those details didn't happen 2 years ago, it's at least cool to watch a whole episode based on a year that you've already lived.

The only scrap of information about 2025 in the Star Trek universe comes from a baseball card on Ben Sisko's desk throughout the duration of Deep Space Nine. It reveals that Buck Bokai returned to playing for the London Kings and was awarded the Solar-System-wide batting championship. He nearly beat Joe DiMaggio's consecutive game hitting streak, but couldn't quite swing it.

Star Trek: Enterprise predicts that World War III will break out in 2026 over genetic engineering, and Strange New Worlds surmised that the Second Civil War starts brewing around this time, so that's super fun and awesome. Luckily, those two downers are easier to swallow when Buck Bokai finally beats Jo DiMaggio's hitting record for most consecutive hits in a game this year. If that lifts your spirits and makes you hopeful for the new year, these Star Trek memes are bound to do the same.
