PUTRAJAYA, April 3 — An attempt to smuggle 3.3 kilogrammes (kg) of heroin worth nearly RM266,000 was foiled at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 last February.

The seizure was made following an inspection by the Enforcement Division of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department at KLIA, together with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), on a Swiss national at the arrival hall on Feb 24.

KLIA Customs director Zulkifli Muhammad said the suspect, who was attempting to enter Malaysia from a Southeast Asian country, was stopped after a scan of a water hose reel box he was carrying revealed suspicious images.

“A thorough inspection by the Customs enforcement team uncovered black packages concealed inside the water hose reel, believed to contain heroin,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the suspect and the seized items were subsequently handed over to the KLIA Customs Department Enforcement Division for further investigation.

Zulkifli said the heroin is listed under the First Schedule, Part III of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspect has been charged in court. — Bernama
