Losing a parent is already one of the hardest things a person can go through, but dealing with the financial aftermath can bring out a whole new level of family drama. In this story, a 26-year-old man inherited money from his late father, who made it very clear in his will that the funds were meant to help his son get a solid start in life. His stepmom (who had been married to his dad for eight years) wasn't cut out entirely. She got the house and a comfortable amount of savings, meaning she was set up just fine.
But when the son mentioned he planned to use his inheritance for a house down payment, his stepmom immediately swooped in with guilt trips and emotional blackmail. She insisted that he help keep the house running by giving her a loan from his inheritance, despite the will spelling out exactly who it was for.
When he refused, she blew up and accused him of being greedy, claiming his dad would be disappointed. (Sure, Jan.)
