  • My husband cut off my son's hair, so I used his credit card to buy my son the designer jacket he's been wanting. Am I wrong for doing that?

My son is 17, and pretty much all his life has had long hair. He had long, thick, and very well maintained black hair that went just past his chest, and he loved it.

  • My husband, his step-dad, has never been a fan of it and has always thought it was girly.

  • He's never been mean or cruel about it to my sons face, but he has said to me that he thinks he should cut it off.

  • If I were a betting man, I'd say that he has been mean or cruel about it to his stepson's face. He just hasn't been mean or cruel about it in front of his wife, because he knows that he can get away with being cruel to his step-son when she is not around.

  • The two of them got into a huge fight because my son has been skipping his classes, and my husband decided that to punish him, he was going to cut his hair.

  • There is no world where this is an acceptable punishment for skipping class. I've seen many viral videos where parents cut their kids' hair off as a punishment for being mean to another kid, and even in those cases, the punishment doesn't fit the crime. If your teenager skips class, you should forbid him from hanging out with his friends for a week or make him do a laundry list of chores. Taking away his hair, which will take years to regrow, is so much more drastic, and it will teach him that any transgression, no matter how small, will be met with the most extreme reprimands.

  • I dont know how it went down, but when I came home, my son was crying and cutting his own hair in the mirror.

  • I asked him what was wrong and what he was doing and he told me my husband had randomly cut his hair short in spots and now he had to cut it really short to even it out and make it look okay.

  • I went and spoke to my husband to find out the specifics of what happened from his side as well and it ended up in yelling because while I dont agree with my son skipping classes I felt that cutting his hair over it was cruel and horrible when this could've been resolved another way.

  • To cheer up my son, I bought him this affliction leather jacket that he's wanted for a while out of my husbands money.

  • Although I understand where she's coming from emotionally, using her husband's credit card to buy her son a leather jacket won't make the situation any better. It shows her son that she will try to throw money at a problem to make it go away rather than face it head-on. It shows her husband that the worst thing that will happen if he hurts her son is that he will lose a couple of hundred bucks.

  • My husband found out and was furious but I told him he shouldn't have cut my sons hair and he can do this as an apology.

  • It's going to take years for my sons hair to grow back, but my husband can make that money back quickly.

  • Hammingbir YTA for not protecting your son. YTA for allowing his step-father to assault him. YTA for thinking an expensive gift (purchased with a purloined credit card) makes everything okay. Your poor kid. What terribly lessons are you teaching him???

  • hebejebez Honey please please sit your son down and ask for all of it all of the small and big things your partner has done or said. I can guarantee he has just taken it and not told you as it seems like he's quite a sensitive soul who might see you happy and just s k it up for you. So please, ask him. It might break your heart but for your relationship with your son you need to know

  • ithinkantsarecute Original Poster's Reply There's been a long conversation, and he's told me about things that have happened when I'm not around. There are so many things I was unaware of. I've found out his step-brother, who is 19, has also been heavily involved in many things that have been done to my son. I'm devastated and furious. I've been up all night dealing with this legally.

  • Life_Temperature2506 Can't wait for step-dad to escalate this game cause, you know, you're allowing it.

  • Garden_gnome1609 You should divorce this man. If someone did that to my child that would be it. The relationship would be over. He thinks it's ok to ignore someone's bodily autonomy? How'd he like a taste of his own medicine? He would not like how I gave it to him.

  • lydocia This would be an instant divorce for me.
