J.Crew is no stranger to tapping celebrity talent for its seasonal releases, but the retailer’s latest launch — the Barn Jacket 40th anniversary campaign — is undeniably in a league of its own.
In celebration of the wardrobe staple’s four decades, J.Crew brought together 160 people — A-listers, athletes, cultural icons and local legends — for direct, intimate portraits in the beloved Barn Jacket, reimagined for 2026. Unveiled on Sept. 22 on jcrew.com, the campaign includes Spike Lee, Chance the Rapper, Jenny Slate, Scottie Pippen, Dave Franco, Amandla Stenberg, Bowen Yang, Hari Nef, Vince Staples, Aly Raisman, Robby Hoffman and Owen Thiele, to name just a dozen.
Shot by Robert Nethery in New York City, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston and Chicago, the campaign’s goal is to explore how no two portraits, like no two Barn Jackets, are the same.
First introduced in 1986, the J.Crew Barn Jacket has been reimagined throughout the years while still preserving its wearability and effortless utility. It also “takes on a completely different personality depending on who is wearing it,” says Olympia Gayot, Creative Director of Women’s and Kids at J.Crew. “It can feel polished, rugged, feminine, oversized, familiar or unexpected. That ability to move effortlessly between wardrobes, generations, cities and points of view is exactly why it has remained such a lasting J.Crew icon,” she adds.
Available in 29 styles across women’s, men’s and kids, the new 2026 Barn Jacket features a reworked silhouette that hits right at the waist for a slightly boxier fit. Still, it maintains original Barn Jacket details like corduroy accents, ample pockets and adjustable button cuffs. The original 1986 Barn Jacket — with its classic fit — is also available online, and seen throughout the star-studded campaign.
