Snoop Dogg Biopic Finds Its Suge Knight in Tre Hale (Exclusive)

Tre Hale, who appears on Netflix crime show Nemesis, will portray infamous record executive Suge Knight in Snoop, Universal Pictures’ biopic of entertainment mogul and rapper Snoop Dogg.

The feature has been on a casting tear as it heads toward a mid-September production start in and around Los Angeles.

Jonathan Daviss, one of the stars of Netflix series Outer Banks, is portraying Snoop Dogg, who emerged from Long Beach, Calif. in the 1990s to become one of the biggest names in rap.

Other actors on the call sheet playing personalities that influenced Snoop Dogg’s life include Myles Bullock Be as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as troubled rapper Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, and Lauren London as Snoop Dogg’s mother.

Knight was the larger-than-life co-founder of Death Row Records, the notorious record label that helped bring rap and hip-hop into the mainstream with albums by Dr. Dre, Shakur, and of course, Snoop Dogg. The label went downhill due to several factors, among them the high-profile departures of Snoop Dogg and Dre in the late 1990s. (Knight was later sentenced to 28 years in prison for manslaughter after a fatal hit and run in 2015 near a promotional shoot for the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.)

Craig Brewer is directing Snoop, which is being produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, the veteran producer behind the semi-autobiographical Eminem drama 8 Mile, and the company’s Allan Mandelbaum. Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker are also producing.

Universal will release Snoop on Aug. 6, 2027.

Hale was a series regular on AppleTV+ series Platonic, playing  opposite Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne on the show. On the big screen, Hale will be seen in Empire City, an upcoming action thriller Empire City that also stars Gerard Butler and Hayley Atwell.
