The Sindh Education Department has transferred ownership of 72 government schools to various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across the province. The decision is aimed at improving educational standards and increasing community participation, according to officials.
The move is part of the 'Adaptation Program Policy 2012,' which aims to enhance the quality of education by involving local communities and NGOs in the management of schools. The schools have been transferred to organizations such as the NGV Management, the Karachi Foundation, and the Laghari Education Foundation, among others.
According to the notification issued by the Sindh Education Department, the schools are located in the districts of Karachi, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Mirpur Khas, Dadu, Hyderabad, and Noshero Feroz. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Provincial Education Committee, chaired by the Secretary Education, Sindh, on April 7.
With this latest transfer, the total number of schools handed over to NGOs has reached 380, while over 100 organizations have been involved in the adaptation program. The Sindh Education Department aims to further expand this model under the public-private partnership.
What This Means
The transfer of government schools to private organizations is a significant step towards improving the quality of education in Sindh. By involving local communities and NGOs in the management of schools, the government aims to increase community participation and enhance educational standards. This move is also expected to bring in private sector expertise and resources, which can help in improving the infrastructure and facilities of the schools. However, the success of this initiative will depend on the effective management of the schools by the NGOs and the government's ability to monitor and evaluate their performance.
