Recently, a video of Kim Jae Joong discussing the distinction between sasaengs and fans went viral online.

In the clip, he makes it clear that sasaengs are criminals.

Lawyer: Madness and obsession disguised as love. I’ve seen this too many times. This isn’t love. There’s a clear difference between a true fan and a sasaeng, but in some ways, the difference could be just a fine line.

Jae Joong: (Firmly) It’s a big difference, not just a fine line. If you say it’s a fine line, they could take it the wrong way. They could end up thinking that it was just a fine line that they made a mistake. I think it’s a crime.

He also shared his experience and what it was like to be constantly chased by sasaengs.

Hundreds, even thousands, of people rotated through this behavior for years, and I couldn’t help but think, ‘I’ll just have to die’ for it to be over. It felt like monsters were always chasing me in different forms, times, and situations. What was clear was that there was no way to punish them.

Fans were glad that he was speaking out firmly about the matter.

I’m glad that you always point out that this is a crime. A mistake? A fine line? No, it’s a crime. A clear crime.
