Police still probing alleged Langkawi drug network linked to cop known as ‘Mr A’, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail today said authorities are still identifying individuals allegedly involved in a drug distribution network operating in Langkawi, including a police officer known only as “Mr A”.

Speaking to reporters after launching the 'PDRM Special Dialogue V 2026', Mohd Khalid said the matter remains under investigation and police are unable to comment further for now.

“The matter is still under investigation. I need to verify who is involved, the individuals concerned, and groups that may be connected to it.

“So, for the time being, we are unable to comment further and, God willing, I will call for a press conference later,” he said.

He was responding to a report by Malay daily Harian Metro today, which alleged that a new organised drug syndicate had resurfaced in Langkawi six years after the death of notorious drug kingpin Mat Nahar, dubbed the island’s “Pablo Escobar”.

The report claimed the syndicate is being masterminded by a police officer known as “Mr A”, with several former members of Mat Nahar’s group now allegedly operating under him following their former leader’s killing.

According to the report, the resurgence of the network has contributed to Langkawi’s persistent drug problem despite repeated operations by the Royal Malaysia Police and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK).

Asked whether police personnel found to be involved would be investigated, Mohd Khalid said authorities would not hesitate to take action.

“Of course, of course, of course. As everyone is aware, this year alone we have made many major seizures to ensure the country’s security remains safeguarded.

“If it is related to breaches of the law or security matters, we will not hesitate to lodge police reports and take legal action,” he said.
