ALOR SETAR, June 8 — Police today confirmed that the Proton X50 sport utility vehicle (SUV) that collided with a lorry carrying a load of soil at Kampung Baru Pinang Tunggal, Sungai Petani, yesterday was driven by its owner, Ahmad Fahim Ahmad Shukri.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said there had been an error in the earlier information, which stated that the SUV was driven by Ahmad Syafiq Ahmad Shukri, 29, a Lance Corporal attached to the Seberang Perai Selatan district police headquarters.

“Initially, the police were informed by the Fire and Rescue Department that the SUV was driven by a police officer.

“However, this morning it was confirmed that the vehicle was driven by the policeman’s younger brother. There was an error in the information received,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

In the accident at about 3.50 pm yesterday, six family members, including a baby, were killed, while a three-year-old girl sustained serious injuries.

The victims were travelling in the Proton X50 SUV, which collided with a lorry carrying a load of soil while they were en route from Penang to Merbok to visit a family member’s grave. — Bernama
