I'll be the first to say it, I miss Blockbuster. I miss being able to browse the shelves and take out a title at a time, figuring out what I wanted to watch. There was a finite number of options, so you knew you would leave with something. Nowadays, there's an infinite number of options, which means that you could search forever and never find something. It's too easy to get decision paralysis when you're flipping through 12 different streaming apps. At Blockbuster, everything was neatly organized right in front of you. You knew the sections you liked the best, and you would frequent those areas. Maybe they were even staff picks from people whose taste you trusted.

You could look at all sorts of different movie covers and decide what spoke to you based on the DVD art. We all remember looking at the jewel case for Showgirls and thinking it was one giant worm lady, instead of a silhouette leg. We remember flipping through the horror sections and being scared by the images on the covers. We remembered the frustration and pain of our favorite classic being rented to somebody else. It was a destination. You could go there with your friends and leave with a plan. It was the first stop on the way to a night well spent. A night making pillow forts and eating Domino's Pizza. Some of the best nights of our lives were facilitated through Blockbuster.
