“Paradise Lost,” the latest mystery-thriller from “Train to Busan” and “Hellbound” filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, has been bought by Well Go USA Entertainment ahead of its world premiere at Toronto.

“Paradise Lost” will bow Sept. 13 at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre as part of TIFF’s Special Presentations lineup, marking Yeon’s fourth appearance at the festival.

Starring Kim Hyun-joo and Bae Hyeon-seong, the film follows a mother whose young son mysteriously disappears along with a bus full of children. Years later, he unexpectedly returns — but has changed in ways she could never have imagined.

“I am thrilled to present ‘Paradise Lost’ to North American audiences through Well Go USA,” Yeon said. “‘Paradise Lost’ is a psychological thriller that dives deep into the abyss of a mother, caught between the son she resurrected in a virtual world through AI and the son who returns after being presumed dead.”

“Even though ‘Colony’ and ‘Paradise Lost’ are entirely different in the way they present fear and entertainment, I hope North American audiences are able to enjoy both,” the director continued.

The acquisition continues Well Go USA’s longstanding relationship with Yeon, having previously handled his zombie blockbuster “Train to Busan,” as well as “The Ugly” and “Colony.”

“Audiences are in for a haunting, emotionally resonant experience, and we’re proud to introduce the film to U.S. audiences following its world premiere at TIFF,” said Well Go USA president and CEO Doris Pfardrescher, who described “Paradise Lost“ as a “gripping and deeply human mystery that showcases his singular ability to find terror in the most intimate places.”

Yeon broke out internationally with 2016’s “Train to Busan,” which premiered at Cannes and became a global hit, and has since expanded across film and television with projects including Netflix supernatural series “Hellbound.”

Well Go USA plans to release “Paradise Lost” in the U.S. following its TIFF premiere.
