Pakistan has expressed concern over the situation in Lebanon, calling for respect for the country's sovereignty and regional integrity, as well as the immediate ceasefire and full implementation of the UN resolution, which includes Israel's complete withdrawal to the Blue Line.

Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, Asim Ahmad, made the statement during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Lebanon.

The call comes as US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he had a 'very productive' conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, assuring that Israel would not send troops to Beirut. He also claimed that Israeli forces already in Lebanon had been recalled.

However, the Lebanese government has announced a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, with the agreement requiring Israel to halt attacks on Beirut and the surrounding areas controlled by Hezbollah, and the group to cease its attacks on Israel. The UN Security Council meeting saw Pakistan's representative, Asim Ahmad, express concern over the escalating security and humanitarian situation in Lebanon, despite attempts at ceasefire and direct talks between Israel and Lebanon.

What This Means

The situation in Lebanon highlights the complex web of regional tensions and the need for international intervention to prevent further escalation. Pakistan's call for respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and regional integrity underscores the importance of upholding international law and preventing the further destabilization of the region. The impact of this crisis will be felt not only in the Middle East but also globally, with potential consequences for global security and stability.
