I Just Wanna Grill for God's Sake is a series of image macros depicting an illustration of a grown man using a grill under the caption "All the media says is 'racism, shootings, socialism, KKK' I just wanna grill for God's sake." The meme has been used as an ironic image to mock the sense of humor associated with baby boomers online. The meme is also known as The Griller.
Origin
The earliest known usage of the image was posted by an anonymous Imgur user on March 12th, 2018. The post received 12,000 views. Redditor DrugThrone took credit for the image in a thread in the /r/terriblefacebookmemes subreddit several months later, linking to the original post in the /r/MillionDollarExtreme subreddit. However, due to that subreddit's banning, the post could not be verified.
Precursor
On August 15th, 2015, Redditor top_cock posted a Keep Calm and Carry On parody an image Million Dollar Extreme member Sam Hyde with the caption "Keep Calm and Mow the Lawn" (shown below, left).
On March 13th, 2018, Redditor VarysIsAMermaid69 posted an image of a man grilling that they found on the /r/MillionDollarExtreme subreddit. The image features the caption, "Go ahead, liberal! Call me a dumbass! I'm just gonna keep grillin' while you suck those illegals' cocks" (shown below, right).
Spread
On May 1st, 2018, Twitter user @wewuzboomers shared the image. The post received more than 11,000 likes and 2,000 retweets in a little over one year (shown below).
The following day, Redditor Bensiferum posted theimage in the /r/terriblefacebookmemes. The post received more than 3,500 points (97% upvoted) and 140 comments in a little over one year (shown below).
About two weeks later, on May 13th, iFunny user familyguyfuntimefunny11 shared screenshot of the image underneath a text message notification that reads "I just wanna grill for God's sake." The post received more than 500 upvotes in a little over one year (shown below, left).
On June 10th, Redditor Dysfunctional_Orphan launched the /r/ijustwannagrill subreddit. As of August 2019, the group has more than 1,300 subscribers. The account features variations of the image. The most popular version features a variation of the What If You Wanted to Go To Heaven meme (shown below, center).
On August 18th, an anonymous 4chan user posted variation of the meme that featured the 30-Year-Old Boomer meme (shown below, right).
