KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Traffic on most major highways was reported to be smooth this morning in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration, with slow-moving traffic detected at a few locations along the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK).

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesperson said that as at 9.52 am, traffic was moving slowly on the southbound PLUS route from Nilai towards Bandar Ainsdale due to an increase in the volume of vehicles.

On the KLK, a 3.1-kilometre traffic congestion was reported on the eastbound stretch from Bentong towards Karak.

“Traffic from Bentong to Karak on the KLK was affected by an accident, which blocked the right lane and resulted in a 3.1-kilometre traffic jam,” the spokesperson said when contacted today.

He said 32 Smart Lanes had been activated on major highways nationwide during the festive period to help ensure smoother traffic flow.

LLM advised highway users to plan their journeys, remain alert while driving and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

The public can obtain the latest traffic updates through the LLM hotline at 1800-88-7752, which operates from 7 am to 10 pm, as well as via its website at www.llm.gov.my and official social media channels. — Bernama

* Editor’s note: The initials PLUS is in Malay and stands for Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama Berhad (North-South Expressway operator) while LLM stands for Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (Malaysian Highway Authority).
