KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — The government has approved nearly 21,700 applications to transfer BUDI Madani Diesel eligibility as of yesterday, including 12,160 applications from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the mechanism allows registered owners of eligible diesel vehicles to transfer their eligibility to Malaysian citizens with valid MyKad who qualify for BUDI95 and are the actual users of the vehicles.
He said the improvements, implemented since September 16, 2026, were aimed at addressing situations where vehicles are used by family members or employees who are not the registered owners, including informal hire-purchase arrangements known as “sambung bayar”, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak.
“For owners with more than one diesel vehicle, eligibility can be transferred to a maximum of three other individuals, subject to the number of vehicles owned and eligibility checks,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong), who wanted to know how many pickup truck and jeep owners had received the additional 100 litres under BUDI Diesel, as well as the measures to assist owners who use their vehicles for small businesses, agriculture and travel to remote areas.
Amir Hamzah said that as of yesterday, more than 291,000 jeep and pickup truck users nationwide were enjoying an additional monthly allocation of 100 litres under BUDI Madani Diesel.
The additional allocation brings the total diesel subsidy available to eligible owners to 400 litres a month, compared with the basic allocation of 300 litres.
“This initiative takes into account the use of jeeps and pickup trucks as the main vehicles for transporting agricultural produce and small business goods, carrying workers, as well as travelling to rural and remote areas, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak.
“This approach aims to ensure that users who genuinely depend on diesel vehicles for their daily economic activities continue to receive appropriate subsidy support,” he said.
He said the government had also expanded the implementation of the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) to privately owned jeeps and pickup trucks registered under companies, including small enterprises, allowing these vehicles to benefit from subsidised diesel.
As of Oct 26, more than 27,200 jeeps and pickup trucks had qualified under SKDS.
Amir Hamzah said the government would continue to monitor the implementation of BUDI Madani Diesel based on usage data, user feedback, input from state governments and the needs of the sectors involved to ensure that improvements could be made in line with current requirements. — Bernama
