Nepal embassy in KL appeals for flood relief donations as death toll rises

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — The Nepal government has accorded high priority to search, rescue, relief and emergency response operations in areas affected by the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River on Wednesday, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Kuala Lumpur.

The embassy said the flood had caused significant loss of life and extensive damage to property and infrastructure, particularly in the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha districts.

“The relevant authorities and security agencies are continuing their efforts to locate and rescue those affected, provide immediate assistance and assess the full extent of human casualties and physical damage,” the embassy said in a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday.

Meanwhile, it said the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers had appealed to individuals, organisations, businesses and well-wishers to extend financial assistance to support the safe relocation of affected people and their long-term rehabilitation and recovery.

In this regard, the embassy has appealed to Nepali nationals residing in Malaysia, Nepali associations and organisations, businesspersons, social workers and well-wishers of Nepal to provide financial support for those affected by the devastating flood.

Financial support can be channelled into the official bank accounts of the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund at Rastriya Banijya Bank (account numbers: 1130100003762001/ 1130100000006006) and Nepal Bank Limited (account numbers: 00211600510039000003/ 00200100510039000001).
