Matthew McConaughey's mom Kay McConaughey is dishing on the parenting standards she set at her home while raising three sons.
During a recent interview with Southern Living, published on Saturday, Kay revealed one non-negotiable rule that made her sons "productive."
"Be consistent," Kay told the outlet. "Set up the rules and say 'This is it. It's not up for discussion. Ever.' You just have to be consistent."
As the 94-year-old mother, who shares Matthew, Michael and Patrick with late husband James McConaughey, continued, "I raised three boys to be loving and productive men. They had until 18 in my house and we had a rule—you listen to me and you do what I say."
"After you turn 18, you are out of here and can do what you please," she added.
And the lesson stayed with them well into adulthood, as Kay gushed, "They turned out to be great men, because the values I gave them they put to use when they left."
This came after Matthew shared his remarks on parenting in a recent appearance on Bear Grylls Is Running Wild back in April.
The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actor, who shares three kids with wife Camila Alves McConaughey, said that he believes the greatest art a man can create is by proving him as a "good father to a son or a daughter."
He added at the time, "I think a man's a prince until he has children, then he becomes a king. I don't think there's anything more important that a man can do."
