Actor Lee Yi Kyung has found himself amid yet another serious controversy after his one-man agency came under scrutiny by the financial authorities.
Lee Yi KyungAccording to reports on May 13, KST, the actor recently underwent a tax investigation in relation to his one-person entertainment agency and the authorities determined that part of Lee’s personal income had been funneled through the company as corporate income. This move potentially reduced the amount of taxes he paid. The issue is reportedly based on differences between personal income tax rates and corporate tax rates, which has led the authorities to deem the arrangement as possible intentional tax evasion.
Lee Yi Kyung’s agency, Sangyoung ENT, released an official statement in response, explaining that the situation resulted from differing interpretations of tax laws between the authorities and the company. They firmly denied any intentional wrongdoing and added that Lee Yi Kyung intends to fully pay the revised taxes without any delay. The company also vowed to strengthen its tax management practices in the future to avoid such misunderstandings.
In recent months, alleged tax evasion has become one of the gravest controversies for K-Celebrities. Multiple high-profile celebrities in the Korean entertainment industry, including the likes of Cha Eunwoo, Yoo Yeon Seok, and Kim Seon Ho, have faced tax investigations in relation to their personal corporations, with varying levels of backlash from the public.
