Origin
On October 7th, 2025, musical artist Slayyyter released a teaser for her song "CRANK" online, including on TikTok alongside a preview of the song's music video. The preview features the lyrics, "I'm so wet, my hoes bad, if I get drunk, might have to ring her
She pick up, then we fuck, I get so gay off that tequila." The song's music video was released on YouTube two weeks later, gaining over 1.1 million views in five months.
On October 14th, X user @parkbominatore posted a low resolution photo of Kayla Sims, a YouTuber known for her gaming content, under the caption, "I GET SO GAY OFF THAT TEQUILA," gaining over 21,000 likes and 2,400 reposts in five months.

The meme spread over the following months, with the catchphrase largely being associated with Kayla Sims.
On November 20th, 2025, Instagram user grimesbangs posted a meme referencing the image macro that gained over 22,000 likes in four months.
On December 31st, X user @kyle4prezident posted, "new year’s resolution: get so gay off that tequila," garnering over 3,700 likes in three months.
On February 21st, 2026, X user @AcervoSlayyyter quoted a post sharing several photos of writer Jennette McCurdy, writing, "she looks like she gets so gay off that tequila," garnering over 6,600 likes in a month.
On March 8th, Instagram user zachxmeme reposted the original version of the meme, garnering over 33,700 likes in three weeks.
On March 25th, X user @fruowo posted an image of Kayla Sims under the caption, "The LGBTQ crowd is mad because the I Get So Gay Off That Tequila girl is stealing their attention during Pride Month," using the "LGBTQ Crowd" format, garnering over 1,900 likes in a week.
