K-Fans, I-Fans Demand For K-Pop Idol To Be Kicked Out Of Popular Group

Usually, it is no surprise for a group’s domestic fan base to share opposing views with the group’s international audience. Sometimes cultural differences can be part of the issue, as can differences in fan culture and thoughts on how idols should behave.

However, fans of a group have shown an unexpected sharing of opinion regarding a member’s actions.

Last year, Super Junior’s Siwon was involved in several controversies, the first sparked by his show of support following controversial right-wing figure Charlie Kirk’s death. After this, he was criticized over his social media activity, which included allegedly racist and Islamophobic posts, along with other behaviors.

Many rallied to have the idol removed from the group, resulting in him taking actions against fans.

Earlier this year, another political post landed him in hot water again.

On May 27, a Korean account with the username @siwon_out, shared a notice, mentioning Siwon’s repeated controversies as damaging to the group’s image while vowing to take action to have him removed from the group if they continued and asking for an apology.

The following days, May 28-29, protest trucks were stationed outside of SM Entertainment.

While these thoughts do not represent all fans, it gained attention due to two fan groups who are often at odds with each other, coming to the same conclusion.
