‘How could I forget?’ Anwar calls Permatang Pauh his hometown and birthplace of political journey

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said he has never forgotten Permatang Pauh, describing his former constituency as his “hometown” and the place where his political journey began.

Although he now represents Tambun, Anwar said Permatang Pauh continued to hold deep sentimental value for him, Sinar Harian reported.

“It is true that now that I am prime minister, I am the elected representative for Tambun. But where did it all begin? Permatang Pauh... how could I forget? This is our hometown,” he was quoted as saying.

Anwar was speaking at the Permatang Pauh Skim Usahawan Bangkit (SUB) programme at Dewan Yayasan Aman Penanti in Kubang Semang, Bukit Mertajam, today.

Anwar previously served as Permatang Pauh MP before later contesting in Port Dickson and Tambun.

He said his attachment to Permatang Pauh was also why he had asked organisers to bring the SUB programme to the constituency.

“Remembering that Permatang Pauh is my place, I asked the organisers to hold the SUB programme here.

“It is fine if you hold it in Bukit Gantang or Trong, but you have to come down to Permatang Pauh because this is my place, my hometown. And this is the proof — today, SUB is being held in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency,” he said.
