Get ready to scream your lungs out in a real-life horror experience like no other. In a move that's sending shockwaves through the gaming and entertainment communities, American Dream, a New Jersey entertainment and retail center, has announced plans to open a real-life Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location in East Rutherford, N.J., in 2027. This immersive restaurant experience is a functional reimagining of the game's location, designed in collaboration with IP holder ScottGames.
Background & Context
The "Five Nights at Freddy's" franchise has taken the world by storm since its inception as a video game series. Created by Scott Cawthon, the game's story arcs typically follow a character attempting to survive attacks from homicidal animatronic characters. The locations are connected to the fictional pizza restaurant franchise Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, which has become synonymous with terror and unease.
The announcement comes as a surprise to fans of the franchise, who have grown accustomed to experiencing the thrill of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza through the safety of their screens. However, this new development promises to bring the horror to life in a way that's both authentic and immersive.
Key Details
The pizzeria will be a quick-service dining experience featuring two animatronic stage shows: the Main Stage with Freddy and the Fazbear Band, and the Pirate Cove with Foxy the Pirate. Fans can eat, play arcade games, watch an animatronic show, and participate in survival horror multiplayer game experiences. This is more than just a restaurant – it's a fully immersive experience that promises to deliver on the terror and excitement that fans have come to expect from the franchise.
"The only way this experience succeeds is if it's created by a team that knows 'Five Nights at Freddy's' inside and out," said Atreyu Alcantar, creative manager, licensing & location-based entertainment at American Dream and creative lead for the attraction. "The animatronic show has to be authentic. The food has to be high quality. And above all else, we're not building a set that looks like Freddy Fazbear's Pizza – we're building Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. This experience will immerse longtime fans in the world they've imagined for years while welcoming an entirely new audience to discover it for the first time."
