Ji Yoo, don’t look at the malicious comments. Just ignore them, OK? Just focus on yourself. Do you understand what I’m saying?

Netizen 1: How do we know that’s her mom?

Netizen 2: She comments on her daughters’ YouTube contents all the time. Also, her son-in-law once replied, calling her “MIL.”

The post quickly drew sympathy from many netizens, with several criticizing those attacking Yoo Ji Yoo over an unconfirmed relationship. Many pointed out that even if the dating rumors were true, the alleged relationship itself was not a moral or legal issue. Others felt especially uncomfortable that hate was being directed at the alleged girlfriend rather than staying focused on the idol involved.

  • Is it really that hard not to leave hate comments?
  • Hmm… I don’t like that a negative image is being created around “idol fans,” but I feel like some people will see comments like this and strengthen their negative bias even more.
  • Fans are seriously making such a fuss. It’s not even a crime, and the reaction is so excessive, LOL.
  • On a post from a parent worrying about their child, people are so wrapped up in their own dating delusions that they’re leaving ridiculous comments, LOL.
  • Ji Yoo is basically getting hit by a stray bullet here, LOL. She didn’t reveal the boyfriend at all on YouTube. It was the boyfriend’s acquaintance who posted the TMI, and then the boyfriend stirred up the fans with a weird Instagram story. They’re forcibly attacking a woman who did nothing wrong because they’re obsessed with the man.
  • The man should be the one to resolve this. What is this?
  • I feel bad for her.
  • Before being a fan, you should be a human being first.
  • Even as a friend, this would be upsetting. Imagine being her mom. She must feel so heartbroken.
  • This could be resolved by not leaving hate comments… Being a fan doesn’t mean you’re automatically excused for everything you say and do.

Several netizens also defended Yoo Ji Yoo’s mother, saying it was understandable for a parent to respond after seeing their child receive harsh comments. Others criticized the way dating controversies in idol fandoms often escalate, especially when the rumored partner is not a public idol.

  • Huh? No matter what, let’s not justify malicious comments by saying they’re hurt. They can feel disappointed because the singer they like is dating at a time when he’s doing well. They can say fans spend money while non-fans forgive him, and I do think some of that can be true, even if it’s excessive. But crawling into a post where the family is clearly hurt by hate comments and saying things like that to justify it is too much.
  • “I spent money on you, so live the way I want” is such an immature mindset. Celebrities don’t live according to what you want just because they received money from you. You just liked them and spent money on them yourself. But if a casual fan says, “Why are you acting like this after spending money?” people laugh and say they’re using money as a weapon. The idol-fan mindset of treating people who spent money as superior is pathetic. It’s no different from livestream culture.
  • People keep saying, “Since it’s also because of money,” but there are plenty of casual listeners who spend money on DAY6 by listening to and buying their music. Why do people keep saying money is only spent by fans and forgiveness is only given by casual listeners? What, do you have to buy useless goods from some sketchy seller to earn the right to be a fan and leave hate comments about DAY6? I’ve been speechless every time I saw that logic, but if someone is coming out with that kind of mindset just because they willingly listened to and supported the group, they should leave the fandom.
  • The mindset of “I spent money to help make you popular, so you have to live the way I tell you to” is basically abuse of power. It’s not like this relationship is morally or legally problematic.
  • Why date a man who can’t even say he’s dating you in the first place?
  • I saw the mom’s comment get posted last time too, so why do people keep bringing it back? Her daughter is getting cursed out like crazy. Can’t she at least leave a comment like that? LOL.
  • But isn’t that the kind of comment a parent can leave out of concern for their child?
  • She should just contact her daughter directly. Her daughter might not even see the comment.

As the debate continues, many netizens are now calling for people to stop attacking Yoo Ji Yoo and her family over unconfirmed dating rumors. While opinions remain divided on how Dowoon has handled the situation, a growing number of commenters agreed that targeting the alleged girlfriend and her loved ones has gone too far.
