Philanthropist and television writer-producer Chuck Lorre will receive the Founders Angel Award at Project Angel Food’s annual Angel Awards Gala on Saturday, Sept. 26 in Los Angeles.
This award has only been presented once before, and is the organization’s highest honor, “reserved for individuals whose vision, leadership and generosity have had a transformative impact on its mission, shaped its future and created an enduring legacy,” Project Angel Food said in a statement Tuesday.
Lorre has made his mark on the industry with hit shows like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon” along with his philanthropic endeavor The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation which supports health care, education and the arts. Lorre previously partnered with Project Angel Food to triple the organization’s annual meal-production capacity from 1.5 million to more than 4.5 million medically tailored meals.
“Chuck Lorre is not only responsible for the largest gift in Project Angel Food’s history, he is one of the most engaged philanthropists I know—and a true friend to our community,” Project Angel Food CEO Richard Ayoub said. “We’re thrilled to honor Chuck and are grateful to him, Trisha Cardoso and everyone at The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation for their extraordinary partnership, which strengthens our work, gives hope to thousands and helps build a healthier Los Angeles.”
Grammy-nominated Canadian alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies will perform at the event. The band performed and recorded “The History of Everything,” the theme song for “The Big Bang Theory.”
Presenting sponsors for the 2026 Angel Awards Gala include Warner Bros. Television, Cedars-Sinai Medical Group and Wells Fargo Bank.
Project Angel Food prepares and delivers more than 1.5 million medically tailored meals each year to almost 7,800 clients in Los Angeles County. Since its founding in 1989, during the AIDS crisis by Marianne Williamson, Project Angel Food has delivered more than 21 million meals.
