Cannes boss courts Hollywood big-budget movies back in festival Cannes head gets honest about Hollywood skipping the festival.

At Cannes, there seems to be a dearth of Hollywood's big world premieres, as it is set to roll out the red carpet for the 2026 edition.

Thierry Frémaux, the film's festival director, tends to agree with this; however, he is hopeful for this year.

“I hope the studio films come back,” he said, as Fast and Furious will premiere this year at the festival for its 25th anniversary.

“Fast & Furious is a phenomenon in the contemporary history of cinema,” the president added.

Though, since COVID, big-budget films that premiered at Cannes have had mixed results.

There are Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Pixar’s Elemental, and Warner Bros’ Furiosa.

These films did not perform well at the box office or receive great reviews.

But on the other hand, there were some hits too.

For example, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Top Gun: Maverick, and Elvis.

Cannes Film Festival 2026 will take place from May 13 to May 23.
