PUTRAJAYA, Nov 7 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today said the Cabinet did not discuss ministerial vacancies or the replacement for outgoing Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz during its weekly meeting.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Fahmi said the Cabinet currently has two vacant portfolios.

He was referring to the Economy Ministry and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry, which became vacant after their respective incumbents Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad resigned following their defeat in the PKR leadership race in May.

“When Tengku Zafrul completes his term as a senator in December, there will be a third vacancy.

“These vacancies need to be filled but I do not have any new information to share yet,” Fahmi said.

Tengku Zafrul is currently serving his second and constitutionally final term as a Dewan Negara member, which began in December 2022.
