There are degrees of lateness, after all, and not all lateness is created equal. Does one minute late even count as being late? I would hazard to call that "on time." Even in a work setting. Work is probably the thing that we want to be the most on time for, and our managers want that too. They say that time is money, so lateness ultimately affects the bottom line.
