Azam stays tight-lipped on Bloomberg report: “I don’t want to comment”

PUTRAJAYA, April 2 — Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki today declined to comment on recent reports by Bloomberg concerning allegations linked to his shareholdings.

“I don’t want to comment on Bloomberg,” he told reporters briefly when asked about the matter.

Bloomberg previously published an investigative report highlighting Azam’s shareholdings in several listed companies, alongside allegations that senior MACC officers had colluded with a group of businessmen in attempts to take control of targeted firms.

The report marked the second time Azam has been linked to allegations relating to the same purported violation.

Azam and the MACC have denied any wrongdoing.

In its latest report, the international news agency also alleged there had been interference in the timeline for the disclosure of findings from investigations into Azam’s shareholdings.

However, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar yesterday strongly denied claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had instructed a special committee to delay the release of the investigation’s findings.
