We all know about and have probably experienced the concept of the Sunday scaries, but I would argue that this particular feeling is not just confined to happening on a weekly basis. In fact, it can easily be used on a much larger scale, too. This time of year is perfect for that. When those first negative headlines start rolling in, it can feel like all of that New Year's hope and renewal has immediately gone away and has been replaced by the same old nonsense, except worse. If things start in a certain way and they don't seem to be good, how are they going to continue?
It is all too easy to get overwhelmed, but fortunately, we live in the age of the meme. This takes some of the pressure off by adding dumb humor into the mix, whether it addresses the issues that we face or avoids them completely. While we cannot run from our problems and how they fit into the general state of the world forever, it isn't the worst idea to take a break from them sometimes. The easy entertainment of a scroll through internet humor offers us the opportunity to do exactly that.
