     (Chronically Online Syndrome)

  • You ever drop a perfectly calibrated reference and it just… dies in the air? Like you comment “Donatella VERSACE (purple heart)” under someone’s post thinking you absolutely ate that, and they reply “thanks?” like you just said something normal. Normal. Insane.

Or you say “slay” out loud, not even as a joke, just instinctively,  and someone hits you with “what does that mean?” and suddenly you’re forced to confront the fact that your vocabulary is 70% vibes, 20% tone, and 10% words. Because being chronically online isn’t just “using the internet a lot.” It’s having a completely different operating system.

    I'm done with social media..see y'all in 15 minutes (maybe 5)

  • It’s hearing a sentence and immediately assigning it an audio. It’s not being able to say “that’s embarrassing” without internally going this is so not giving for her.
It’s seeing a mildly inconvenient situation and thinking “oh this is actually sick and twisted.”

And the worst part is, you don’t even notice until you interact with people who are… fine. Like, mentally stable. Offline enough to not understand why saying “I’m obsessed” about a candle isn’t literal. People who don’t rank every experience on a scale from “mid” to “life-changing” with zero in between.

im like if a girl went on @eepygirls the internet at a very young age

  • There’s also a very specific kind of brain glitch that only happens when you’re too online, and it’s realizing that something… is a reference now. Like that interview moment with Cynthia where someone tells her people are “holding space right now” and she just goes, “I didn’t know that was happening” while touching her head like she just unlocked a new tab in her brain.

That’s not just a clip. That’s a fully operational sentence now.

Because suddenly, any time you find out about something slightly unexpected, not even big, just… a thing you didn’t consider,  your brain doesn’t go “oh interesting.” It goes I didn’t know that was happening. Not as a joke. Not even consciously. It just… inserts itself.

Someone tells you there’s a group chat you weren’t in? I didn’t know that was happening. You find out people are still using Facebook unironically? I didn’t know that was happening. You learn that someone wakes up early on purpose?
I didn’t know that was happening.

    A new language is born.

I Am not For Everyone And I Like り That BALENCIAGA

  • But if you say it out loud to the wrong person, it’s over. Because to them, you’re just… stating something obvious in a slightly weird way. They don’t hear the clip. They don’t see the moment. They don’t get that you’re referencing something that, in your head, is already a fully formed emotional reaction.

So now you either commit to it and sound insane, or you try to backtrack and somehow explain that no, this is actually very funny, but only if you’ve seen a very specific video at least three times. And that’s kind of the whole problem. Your reactions aren’t fully yours anymore. They’re curated. Pre-loaded. Ready to deploy the second a situation even remotely fits. Which is efficient, sure. But also slightly concerning.
