Working is hard.

While not every day is full of the post-industrial era grimy physical labor of our forefathers, workers in today's workforce still feel the grind of a workday just as heavily. Some might argue that the workforce has grown soft, but I'd like to see my dear ol' Nonna try to spend an hour on Excel working through budget sheets before hopping on a 1-hour monologue conference call with a CEO who doesn't understand how the company works. Impossible!

It's more draining than you'd think to sit at a desk and attempt peak mental performance at your computer keys all day.

Luckily for the modern employee, there are memes to take the edge off. Where would workers be without memes? How else would we send funny little nothings to our favorite coworkers? How will HR know how funny we are off the clock? Most importantly, when's lunch?

Employees are just trying to do their best every day, regardless of the mental load, the dwindling space on the Gcal, and the ever-present desire to quit on the spot. Although it's tempting to sail away into the unknown after your shift, leaving behind the woes of your manager, Karen in accounting, and your unread promotion request emails, every worker knows that they'll be back tomorrow to repeat the process. Fortunately, there are ways to cope with this responsible fact: Memes.

So if you're feeling like you're sinking into the workflow and reaching out into the void for some good vibes, look no further. Because sometimes when you're at work and overwhelmed, the best thing to do is take a step back, scroll through some memes, and reset your brain so that it can absorb more workplace fallout.

That's what Nonna would have wanted.

And at least you can count your blessings that you were born in the 1900s, a century too late to be slinging coal in a mine or welding horse bits in some dark, musty factory. At least we, the modern worker, can stare into the void of our computer screens, chuckle at some memes, and escape into the wonderful infinity of the internet during our break.
