Let's be real. New Year's Resolutions put the pressure on us like the hydraulic presses that crush random things in those TikTok videos. Too niche? Well, here's an example.
I've decided to become anti-resolution. This isn't because I think reinventing oneself is a farce, but I do believe that the concept of New Year's resolutions has been commercialized by big businesses, and those same businesses seek to profit off our insecurities. Too deep? Nah, just enough.
At the end of the day, it's integral that you choose to do what's best for you every day of every month of every year, not just in the first two weeks of January. My hottest take? Cut yourself some slack. Times is tough, dudes. Giving ourselves grace in a moment in time when we're all expected to just keep chugging along is rather important. It's also just another excuse to doom scroll for an hour longer at bedtime, but that's beside the point. No judgment here. I'm still working on my New Year's resolution circa 2018. There's always room for improvement.
Though we follow the Gregorian calendar, and I know that New Year's must fall on the day when we transition from December to January, whose bright idea was it to make "reinvention" the theme of January?! Arguably, the grayest, most sullen month of the year, simply because winter is unforgiving. Save for the fact that we're all in the post-holiday season mindset…
Perhaps my New Year's resolution should be to stop complaining. Old habits perish hard, don't they? What is your New Year's resolution, and when are you starting it? We all know you haven't yet.
