If we're being real, a lot of people are not clearing out their kitchen cupboards enough. Or any part of their home, for that matter.

No doubt about it, if some of us can't be trusted to throw out a half-empty bag of salad leaves that has turned to mush, what chance is there that we are going to be digging deep into those dark corners where all the clutter and expiry dates from another decade hide? There is a case to be made that it is good to reuse and hang onto things in protest of our overly wasteful and consumerist society, but not everything we purchase is meant to have a shelf life of forever (not least if it's edible).

One of the more quirky benefits of holding onto stuff way past the point that we should have is that it can act as a kind of single-item time capsule, transporting us back to an era when life was different, and so was the marketing. More people have these accidental hoarding tendencies than we might think, judging by the dental office interior design style so popular with the influencers of today. While the examples that can be found here may be way past their sell-by date, they certainly have a lot of novelty value.
