The woman had some money in the bank from an insurance payout after getting into a car accident the previous month. The sister, who had shared the car with her, suggested she give it to their mom for the visit. 

She refused, as she had to commute to college and wanted to be able to afford a new vehicle by the time her classes started again. She got heated in defending her position, and worried that she had overreacted to what her sister had said.
