About

Spoony Spoonicus is a series of brainrot memes and edits based on a scene from the 2002 sitcom Malcolm In the Middle in which the character Malcolm (played by actor Frankie Muniz) asks his friend Stevie (Craig Lamar Traylor) and his brother Reese (Justin Berfield) who they think invented the spoon, and Reese answers, "Spoony Spoonicus." The clip comes from Malcolm in the Middle season four, episode four, titled "Stupid Girl," where Reese teaches Malcolm how to "turn off his brain" so he can be better at dating a girl whom he believes is stupid.

The clip went viral on sites including YouTube and TikTok in late April 2026 as the subject of brainrot edits, in which the scene is altered using filters and edited into collages of other brainrot memes, including the "Hound Dog" meme.

Origin

On November 24th, 2002, season four, episode four of Malcolm In the Middle, titled "Stupid Girl," aired in the U.S. In the episode, Malcolm starts dating a girl at school whom he considers stupid. In one scene, Malcolm is eating at the table with Reese and his friend, Stevie. Malcolm asks, "Who do you think invented the spoon?" Stevie starts to answer, but then Reese says, "Spoony Spoonicus," causing him and Malcolm to laugh hysterically.
