Immunity Dog is an image macro meme format where an image of a dog is shared with a caption claiming that the meme will protect you from other image macros and posts which claim that something bad will happen to you if you don't interact with the post in some way. The original Immunity Dog meme started circulating online as early as October 2016 and continued spreading over the following years, inspiring new variations and memes referencing the original.
Origin
The exact origins of the Immunity Dog meme are unconfirmed.
On October 30th, 2016, an Imgur user uploaded the earliest known Immunity Dog image macro, garnering over 39,000 views in nine years. The image macro reads, "This is the immunity dog, he will protect you from 'your mother will die in her sleep tonight if you don't reply to this' and other likewise posts. He will also protect you from the 'no immunities' posts as well, so nothing can stop this dog from protecting you. Take good care of him, he is a good dog."
Spread
The meme spread over the following years. On March 19th, 2017, it was reposted to the /r/wholesomememes subreddit, garnering over 6,300 upvotes in eight years.
On November 16th, 2020, Redditor u/sailorjupiter28titan posted a different version of the meme to the /r/WitchesVsPatriarchy subreddit that gained over 17,000 upvotes in five years.
On October 26th, 2025, X user @ryuuder posted, "I hate the 'say hi to ___ or you’ll have a terrible November' and I don’t mean to sound like a snowflake but it’s REALLY bad for people with ocd." In response, X user @yuzuruat25ji posted an Immunity Dog meme, writing, "thank you for saying this nonoomf ocd really is a bitch so here is immunity dog I hope he helps a little bit," garnering over 2,200 likes in two months.
On October 27th, X user @ posted the Propellor Hat Dog meme captioned, "everyone who sees this is now immune to all the 'say hi to xxx or have a terrible november' posts. your november will be amazing regardless," garnering over 237,000 likes in two months.
That day, X user @Nyazsche quoted the post with the original Immunity Dog meme, garnering over 13,000 likes in the same span of time.
