  • "If you’ve ever done laundry in a dorm, you already know… it’s basically a gladiator arena with lint. The dryers were not cheap, so I always tried to be strategic and economical. I’d set a timer, show up early, so i could get my clothes out right when it was finished.

One day, I came back a few minutes before my cycle was done, with my bag of snack sized doritos feeling very responsible, only to find my clothes had been pulled out early and dumped onto a table. Annoying already, but it gets better. The table was covered in a puddle of soda. So now my almost-dry clothes were damp, sticky, and smelled like a pepsi."

  • "I was furious. Not “mild inconvenience” furious… more like “I paid for that dryer time and now I have to rewash everything” furious.

Now, I’m not a destructive person. But I do believe in… educational pettiness.

I noticed the person’s clothes were still in the dryer. So, I added the full bag of snack-size Doritos into their laundry load, shut door and set it to high heat and let the cycle continue."

  • At that point, it wasn’t just about the laundry anymore, it was about sending a message. Not a loud one, not a dramatic confrontation, just a quiet, crispy lesson in shared-space etiquette. Dorm life teaches you many things, and apparently, one of them is that actions have consequences… especially when those actions involve someone else’s dryer cycle.

  • "When that dryer finished i happened to be hanging out in the lounge outside the laundry area. A girl came out looking angry with a laundry basket full of orange streaked dorito smelling clothes."

  • "Was it mature? No.

Did it restore balance to the universe? Also no.

Did it make me feel better in that exact moment? Absolutely.

Moral of the story: don’t touch other people’s laundry. Or you might end up smelling like a walking snack aisle."

  • Safe to say, the lesson landed… loudly, and with a hint of cheese. Now let’s see what the internet has to say about this perfectly seasoned act of dorm room justice.

“Yeno... i think there was a little balance restored in the universe there”

"I used to be even more petty than that when people would do that. I would just crack open the dryer and leave. The way those particular dryers worked in my dorm, it would still count that as dryer time. So they would have sopping wet clothes and have to pay for more dryer time. And then I would set a timer and come down one more time to specifically beat them to it so I could crack it open again. Always double tap."

"I never understood the thought process of these people. P*ss someone off while handing them a very clear opportunity and method to retaliate.  It's a clear invitation to "please ruin my laundry in any way you see fit".

"Someone in my apt dried their clothes on my dime, then put my wet clothes back on the dryer. I told the manager and she got evicted. All to save a dollar."

"I put a very small clump of cat food in my neighbor’s laundry, because they took my very clean clothes and threw them on the floor, and then put my empty clothes basket on top. They not only cost me money and time but, they made my husband late to work. Funny thing is, my neighbor knows it was me but because they violated park roles they can’t say a word.

For clarification, I’m 38 and I did try to talk to this neighbor first but they decided to flip me off instead. This happened about a month ago and we have an uneasy truce."

"So when I was at Uni I put a load in the dryer and went to the bar across the way from the laundrette for a pint while it was drying. I walked back over to check on it and someone had taken my wet stuff out and dumped it on the side to steal my credit in the dryer. So I slung the half pint of ale I had in my hand in with their clothes, glass and all..."

  • This story wasn’t about revenge: it was about boundaries, respect, and a little creative payback. Dorm life comes with lessons, and this one came extra crispy. Touching someone else’s laundry might seem harmless, but as this story proves, it can come back to bite you… in the most unexpected way.
