Videos released by the Israeli government to dispel the rumors quickly fueled conspiracy theories due to their use of AI and deepfake technology, with users across various social media platforms like X / Twitter and TikTok pointing out inconsistencies, such as extra fingers on Netanyahu's hand.
Origin
On March 2nd, 2026, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran claimed it had launched Kheibar ballistic missiles at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office. While Iranian media claimed that the missiles had impacted, Israeli officials did not confirm any damage or casualties. It was not confirmed if Netanyahu was inside the building during the attack.
On March 13th, the Prime Minister's official X account, @netanyahu, posted a video from a press conference that had supposedly happened the day before. The video circulated on the platform, receiving 13.1 million views and 21,000 likes in four days.

X users in the comments quickly pointed out that Netanyahu appeared to have six fingers in the video, mocking the use of AI with humorous edits depicting Netanyahu with an excessive amount of extra fingers. Commenting on the original post, X user @peanutnewz posted an edited photo of Netanyahu with seven fingers lit like a menorah, which received 398,400 views and 8,300 likes in four days.
The same day, X user @Copelander73 posted a similar comment, this time with an image edited to depict the Prime Minister with an extreme amount of fingers on each hand, which received 113,500 views and 2,300 likes in four days.

Throughout the day, X users continued to react to the AI video. On March 13th, 2026, X @Chaotic_mind99 quoted Netanyahu's post, stating that it was made with AI, as evidenced by the extra fingers, and claimed that the Prime Minister had likely been "deleted." The post received 1 million views and 7,000 likes in four days.
On March 14th, 2026, X user @KimIversenShow quoted the original post with the comment: "Yeah ummm… Bibi is dead guys." The post received 1.3 million views and 10,000 likes in three days.
As the rumors continued to spread throughout the platform, the official Netanyahu X account addressed the conspiracies and comments made about the previous video. On March 15th, 2026, the @netanyahu X account posted another video, featuring what appears to be Netanyahu in a coffee shop, joking about the conspiracy theories and comments made about his fingers from the previous video. The post attracted widespread attention, reaching over 74.6 million views and 148,000 likes in just two days.

The same day, March 15th, 2026, X @freezymfe posted a tweet commenting on the coffee cup featured in the video, which many had pointed out seemed artificial due to its lack of spillage. The post received about 826,400 views and 7,100 likes in two days.
The same day, X user @CumhurFrankfurt responded to the original video with an AI-generated video of their own, depicting Netanyahu drinking the blood of children. The post received about 644,200 views and 16,000 likes in two days.
