The Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser

The Police Science Council works with the Police Chief Scientific Adviser and is funded and supported by the Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser (OPCSA). The OPCSA is responsible for delivering independent science and technology advice to the entire policing sector and works closely with the College of Policing, the National Crime Agency, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services, individual constabularies and Government Ministers. Our work influences a range of strategic, policy and operational issues: it drives the strategic growth of science and technology by encouraging an integrated and ambitious set of activities across National Police Chief Council (NPCC) portfolios; and it fosters collaboration across Whitehall and with the wider science community, including academia and industry, both nationally and internationally.

The PSC currently offers policing access to world-leading expertise across a broad range of subjects and disciplines, including economics, engineering, social science, statistics, and the physical and life sciences. We are looking to broaden that range further and want to hear how your knowledge and expertise can be applied to policing’s challenges of today and the future.

We are particularly keen to see applications from those who have extensive experience in senior science and technology roles within industry. New technologies are the single biggest driver of workforce productivity and essential if investments in people are to succeed - we need to learn more from industry partners and help ensure that industry understands policing’s needs.
