  • One man and his girlfriend were planning a vacation on a faraway island when they decided that it might be nice to invite some of her friends to join them. They felt like it made sense, as the hotel suite they had booked could accommodate up to six people.

The friends happily agreed to this offer, but things soon became complicated when it turned out that they expected the man to cover the entire cost of the holiday for all of them. The flight tickets alone were nearly $3k each, and he felt that their demand was unreasonable, even if he could afford it.

  • Am I wrong for not paying for my partner’s friends to come on a trip?

My partner and I are going for a trip on an island which is on a 25-hour flight away. We've talked about this trip to some of her friends and they were interested in joining, which we would have loved. We've made a group chat

  • where we are planning things to do. My gf and I already have our flight and hotel booked but the friends don't yet. For the hotel part, I agreed to allow them in our room since we ca accommodate up to 6 people in our suite with breakfast and dinner included at no additional cost.

  • Now they are expecting me to pay for their flight tickets, which is 2800$ per person in economy, and other activities on the island. I can surely afford it but I never gave them the impression that I would pay for everything for them. I do not want to pay for them but they are

  • insisting with my partner that I have to pay because I can. Now they are calling me a miser with my partner after which I told her to tell our friends that we don't want to go on the trip with them. AIO?

  • Jeepers-H-Cripes What? Don't you always pay for everyone's food and drinks when you go out? Don't you buy all the tickets for baseball games and Broadway shows? Next you're going to tell me you don't even buy them iPhones, or new clothes, or pay for their Netflix subscriptions. Sweet Jeebus, how do you even have friends?

  • UnlikelyGrapefruit38 Those friends don't really sound like friends, they sound like entitled opportunists. You were so generous by letting them stay with you and then this? Icky behavior on their part. I hope your partner can see their deficiencies.

  • Maleficent-Gap-7799 NOR. Why would they expect you to pay? Thats absurd.

  • van_choc_moose What a couple of entitled Just because you can afford it, means that you must pay for their holiday? Uh, no. Tell them you're sorry they won't be joining you.

  • Senior_Shelter9121 NOR. F those people.

  • damnsuz NOR... I don't even know why you're asking TBH... are you always offering / paying for everything and they just expect it now and you feel guilty? (Even if that's the case, it should never be expected to pay that much). I really don't understand how this is even a question of how you're even remotely in the wrong??

  • rivercass What the f? Communicate: I am not your mommy and I won't pay for anyone's trip. Those are not friends. They are opportunists. NOR. In fact you might be UNDERreacting

  • slackey 1979 Does your gf expect you to pay? I'm wondering if they might have gotten the impression that you would from her. This is insane. I've never heard of entitlement this entitled. NOR.

  • HaloP3a If you don't want to pay, set the boundary. If they push they won't stop

  • juzme99 Just what kind of friends does your partner have, talk about entitled. Your partner is in on this with them. Time to rethink your relationship with her for sure. Your willing to share your suite, now they want you to pay everything. Don't even want to think what they would run

  • up on room service or your hotel bill. Since they are expecting and pressuring, to spend upwards of $7000 on them for their holiday with her help.

  • Time to sit and flat out ask her what she is doing, why the 3 of them think you should pay for their entire holiday. I thought them thinking you should pay their flights was a bit much. But all their activities, so they can keep their savings and all their holiday pay as well. What kind of woman is your

  • partner. They went from joining you and sharing a suite to, oh just pay for our entire holiday. Would you then be the 4th man on the trip, out voted at every turn but expected to pay.

  • lesem0 NOR How did they go from receiving an offer to stay with you to an offer to pay for their flights? That's a wild leap

  • Borntoolate 1952 No you are not. One second after hearing the word "miser", I would have cut contact.
