KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued an advisory on Typhoon Fung-wong, which was detected about 129km south-west of Vigan City, the Philippines this morning.

In a statement today, MetMalaysia said the typhoon is moving west-northwest at 30km/h, with a maximum wind speed of 120km/h.

“Typhoon Fung-wong was detected at latitude 17.4 north and longitude 119.2 east, approximately 1,196km northeast of Kudat, Sabah.

“This condition may cause strong winds and rough seas over the waters of the South China Sea,” it said.

Meanwhile, MetMalaysia also issued a thunderstorm warning for Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Johor, effective until noon today.

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu (Kedah); as well as Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak (Perak).

Similar weather conditions are expected in Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang (Selangor); Jelebu and Seremban (Negeri Sembilan), and Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru (Johor). — Bernama
