Jonah Hill 'Cut It Out' GIF refers to a reaction gif taken from footage of the 2012 Academy Awards broadcast. The GIF shows actor Jonah Hill doing a "cut it out" gesture, a downward side-swipe motion with an open palm. The GIF resurfaced in TikTok comment sections sometime around 2021.

The GIF was derived from footage of the 2012 Academy Awards. The footage of Jonah Hill is preceded by the presentation of the award for Best Visual Effects by actors Ben Stiller and Emma Stone, the latter of the two singing embarrassingly, a camera pans to actor Hill, who is seen making the gesture.


The first use of the GIF as a reaction is unknown, as the GIF had spread throughout the internet shortly after the awards ceremony, though the earliest indexing of the GIF can be found on reactiongifs.com, uploaded with the caption "Jonah Hill thinks you should cut it out.."

The GIF remained in use over the years due to its wide applicability. The GIF began to resurface on TikTok in the early 2020s, becoming a popular reaction in comment sections, sometimes around 2025.

One of the earliest traces of the meme appearing on TikTok came from TikTok user @lucylaneofficial, who recorded footage from the Oscar presentation and captioned the video "me" while showing Stone and "Another unavailable man" when panned to Hill. The video received 9.5 million likes and 1.2 million likes in less than three years.

On August 9th, 2024, TikTok user @realest.mf24 used the GIF for a post about being embarrassed by parents acting like Karens, which received about 546,000 views and 98,900 likes in less than two years.

In March 2025, TikTok officially rolled out the ability to add photos to comment sections. The new feature resulted in a boom of new and old reaction images proliferating the platform.

On September 22nd, 2025, TikTok user @.gif000 posted the GIF so that it may be used with TikTok's ticker feature, allowing users to instantly save GIFs and images for use in comment sections. The video received 1.7 million views and 114,900 likes in less than one year.

The reaction GIF continued to spread into 2026. On February 21st, 2026, TikTok user @fr4st2 featured the GIF in a compilation of other popular Jonah Hill reaction memes. The video received about 412,800 views and 58,900 likes in less than one month.
