  • Am I the bad guy for telling my stepdaughter's birthday party guests exactly why I kicked my wife out of our own home?

I am 38 years old. Have been married to my wife Lena, who is 36 years old for 7 years. She has a daughter named Maya, who's 14 years old from a previous

  • relationship. I have helped raise Maya since she was 7 years old. We have had our ups and downs. I thought we were a stable family.

  • Things changed three months ago when I found out that Lena had been secretly taking money from a savings account that we were building for Mayas education. At first I thought it was a mistake.. After

  • checking everything I realized that she had been withdrawing small amounts for almost a year. When I confronted her she admitted it. Said it was her money too and that I wouldn't understand her stress.

  • The issue wasn't the money. It was that she lied to me repeatedly even when I asked her directly. I told her that I couldn't trust her anymore with something as important as Mayas future.

A college campus, which could very well be in Maya's future.

  • * I told her to leave the house. * It wasn't a decision I made lightly. I felt I couldn't continue living with someone who was financially dishonest and dismissive about it.

  • Week was Mayas birthday party. We kept things for her sake and Lena was invited. Everything was fine at family, friends, laughter. Then Lena started telling people that I threw her out

  • over nothing and painted herself as the victim. She said I was controlling and exaggerated the situation. I explained the truth to people who asked what happened. I told them

  • about the missing savings, the repeated withdrawals and the broken trust. I didn't insult her. I just told them why she was asked to leave.

  • The mood shifted immediately. Some guests looked shocked. Lena was furious. Left the party early saying I humiliated her.

  • Now her side of the family is calling me an a h le for airing laundry at a childs birthday party. They say I should have stayed quiet, for Mayas sake.

  • I feel like I was just defending myself after being publicly misrepresented. So am I the a hole?

  • Tutphish Only you needed to stay quiet for Mayas sake I take it? They meant you shouldn't have made Lena face the truth.

  • DaDuchess-1025 it's for Maya's sake that he's doing this... if her family really wants to help Maya, they can replace what her mom stole! Op should send them an invoice

  • Mueryk How DARE you make the person who lied to you and stole for over a year and was continuing to lie that day, to actually face the truth? The audacity! If she would have kept her mouth shut, it would have stayed private. Once again she is learning actions do in fact have consequences. S ks to be

  • her I guess and her family can pay back the money she stole from her child if they would like to voice an opinion. After that is done, go back to laughing in their face. I will never be the bigger person when it comes to protecting my child from anyone. Simple as that.

  • lizardbreathdr NTA. Now we see why she acts the way she does... Her family has been excusing her sh behavior to protect her ego for several years, if not decades, I'm willing to bet. Get out of there Dude.

  • Sugar Mama76 NTA. I believe the quote is "don't start nothing, won't be nothing". She's been stealing from your daughter's education fund. Either she's making a bailout plan or she's dealing with some kind of addiction she's hiding. She decided to publicly paint you as the bad guy. You clarified. She's humiliated everyone knows she'll steal from her daughter. I believe my quote comes into play right there.

  • UnusualPotato1515 What did she do with the money??

  • Newt-Abject You're both the AHs. You both participated in ruining a child's birthday party. An actual adult would've tabled it, but unfortunately for Maya there didn't seem to be any adults at the party. Even if your wife is incapable of acting mature, that doesn't give you permission to also participate. Also, that's her daughter. You could've left, and addressed it with the party goers later. Instead you decided to ruin the vibe and kicked her mom out for a second time. How's that supposed to

  • CoconutxKitten I'm not going to give a judgment but you're playing with fire. Unless you have adopted Maya, you're playing with fire because you don't have the right to separate them

  • Puzzleheaded_Age6550 I am not sure guests need all the details, that's why the mood changed. I think something like "she broke my trust and I couldn't live with that" would have been enough. Not details. No one outside the family needs those details. A private conversation later with Maya would have sufficed.
