SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 — The Selangor government is optimistic that the co-teaching approach introduced by the Ministry of Education (MOE) will help improve the quality of teaching and learning while addressing challenges faced by schools.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government hopes the new method, which involves two teachers in one classroom, can first be tested to evaluate its impact on both teachers and students.

“I hope this approach will assist teachers in managing specific cases in schools. We face various challenges, including infrastructure issues and bullying cases, which require fresh strategies,” he told reporters after launching the Ambulans Kita Selangor initiative at the State Secretariat building here today.

Amirudin, who oversees the state’s education portfolio, said the state government has yet to receive an official update on the initiative.

“I have not been briefed on the details, but I believe the MOE is exploring all possible measures to ensure school-related issues are addressed effectively,” he said.

Earlier, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the co-teaching concept, which places two teachers in a classroom, is among the new approaches to be introduced under the 2027 School Curriculum. The curriculum aims to create a balance between academic performance and character development among students.

Fadhlina said the initiative, which includes a new subject called Alam dan Manusia: Pembelajaran Bersepadu for Level I pupils, aligns with the ministry’s goal of nurturing a generation that is not only academically excellent but also disciplined, well-mannered, and morally upright.

The method is also expected to make the teaching and learning process more engaging and effective by allowing teachers to be more creative and interactive in their lessons. — Bernama
