Prosecution has demanded WINNER‘s Mino serve 18 months in prison after being caught skipping his military service.
On April 21, presiding judge Seong Jun Kyu of the 10th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court oversaw the first trial for Mino in relation to charges of violating the Military Service Act. Mino is currently being charged for being absent from his social service position for 102 out of 430 days of his military service without proper authorization.
During the trial, Mino admitted to the charges, while a co-defendant identified as Mr. Lee denied the charges. Mino’s legal counsel explained that Mino’s mental difficulties, such as bipolar disorder and panic disorder, were factors causing his absences but were not excuses for his actions. They also told the court he complied with the trial by submitting evidence that would implicate him and was trying to take, not avoid, responsibility.
I am very sorry for failing to fulfill my military service to the end. I am seriously reflecting on failing the expectations of so many people.
I hope to recover my health through medical treatment and if I am given the opportunity, I will complete my service properly.
